Overview of the Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum Unit
The LDRP unit provides normal and high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, intraoperative, postoperative and newborn care. The unit consists of 9 labor rooms, 1 operating room, 1 observation room and 2 examination rooms, along with a count of 10 beds. We deliver and average of 80 babies a month. We have a friendly staff of physicians, nurse midwives, and nurses who are committed to bringing you and your family current, safe and state-of-the-art medical care.
How to Get to Labor and Delivery
The Labor and Delivery unit is located on the 5th floor of the main hospital.
Your Stay on Labor and Delivery
Your stay on LDRP will vary in length due to the reason for your admission. If you are admitted, you will labor, deliver and recover on our unit; we do not have a nursery. The rooming-in of mothers and infants facilitates bonding and breastfeeding. First-time mothers usually stay 48 hours after delivery. Second-time mothers with an uncomplicated birth may be discharged after 24 hours.
While in LDRP, a nurse will be assigned as your primary nurse. This nurse will assist with providing your medical care, support you in your labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum. Please ask questions and participate in your care plan. The nurse will be your advocate. You have the right to considerate, respectful care in a safe environment. There are many decisions to make with the birth of a baby, and we sincerely hope you receive all the information you desire to make these important choices.
We do not have restricted visiting hours on labor and delivery. We highly encourage you to have a support person with you during your stay. Please note, children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit, unless they are siblings.
