Post Anesthesia Care Unit
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit provides intensive observation and care of patients who have received anesthesia and have had procedures which may cause conditions requiring immediate interventions, in compliance with policies and procedures prescribed by the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and the Department of Nursing, and to sustain the highest degree of quality nursing care to all our patients.
Scope of Care and Services
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit provides nursing care for post-operative and/or post-procedure patients from the Operating Room, Labor and Delivery Unit, Gastrointestinal Clinic, Urology Clinic, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or Interventional Radiology Department who have undergone procedures requiring anesthesia to include: General, Spinal, Epidural, Regional Upper Extremity Blocks, Local and/or IV Conscious Sedation. Patients served also include patients who require Monitored Anesthesia Care for special procedures such as a transesophageal echocardiogram and elective synchronized cardioversion. The patient population includes eligible military, military dependents, retirees, dependents of retirees, VA beneficiaries and civilian emergency patients. The age groups of the populations served include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nursing Staff are also trained to work in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Interventional Radiology Department and provide IV Conscious Sedation.
