Intensive Care Unit
William Beaumont Army Medical Center Intensive Care Unit provides an 18-bed combined unit offering Medical, Surgical and Cardiology care to a wide variety of patients. Operating as a Level III trauma center for the West Texas, El Paso area, we also provide care for neurosurgery patients. While the majority of our surgery patients are general surgery patients, we do see vascular cases such as laproscopic Intra-abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair. An innovative approach preformed at very few hospitals. With an active Cardiac Cath Lab, we also on occasion care for patients on Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps. Most are for limited time and often are directly transferred to local facilities for open heart surgery. For our most critically ill patients, we provide and monitor Continuous Venous to Venous Hemodialysis for extended periods in some instances.
Staffing consists of Military, civilian service, contract Registered Nurses and contract Licensed Vocational Nurses. The military nurses maintain profis assignments primarily to the 10th, 21st and 31st Combat Support Hospitals.
Local educational opportunities include a variety of graduate level studies in Nursing available from University of Texas at El Paso, Texas Tech and New Mexico State University, among others.
