Birth Certificates
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to do after my baby is born?
New parents need to report to the Birth Certificate office within three (3) days of the child’s birth. Failure to report in a timely manner will result in the incomplete filing of your child’s certificate. Texas States Law does require the signature of one parent (if possible) on the certificate. Please see our
information for new parents for details.
What if my baby was not born at WBAMC?
If your baby is born at a non-MTF facility, please bring the “Verification of Birth Facts” from that facility and register the newborn with the PAD clerk at the Admission’s window. Admissions is located on the 2
nd floor of the hospital tower.
Home births: Parents will need to go to the downtown county clerk’s office to be given the instructions on how to obtain the birth certificate.”
How do I obtain a birth certificate?
WBAMC is not a certifying agent for the state of Texas. You will need to go to one of the offices listed below with a picture ID to fill out a request form. A fee will be charged per copy and will be ready the same day of the request. A newborn’s birth certificate will be available 2-3 weeks after birth. For more information regarding birth certificates visit the Texas Department of Health.
*PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL DEER’S OFFICE WITHOUT THE STATE CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATE. DEERS WILL NOT ENROLL THE NEWBORN WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTFICATE.
