When will my child need a Social Security Number?

“Your child will need a Social Security Number (SSN) before their first birthday. You may choose to have the State of Texas process the SSN on your behalf, in which case the Social Security card will typically arrive by mail within 2 to 3 weeks.

If you prefer to apply for the SSN yourself, you will need to obtain a certified birth certificate and visit one of the local Social Security offices listed below. You also have the option to complete this process in another state. For more information, visit the Social Security Administration’s official website.”
