Welcome to Armed Forces Wellness Center at Fort Bliss!
Armed Forces Wellness Centers provides platforms to support healthy behavior change through evidence-based health education / health coaching and advanced fitness testing technology for Active-Duty Service Members, Family Members, Retirees, and DoD Civilians. The AFWC offer 6 core programs: health assessment review, physical fitness, healthy nutrition education, general wellness education, stress management, and tobacco education. The AFWC supports all stages of your health journey and provides mentorship, accountability, and health coaching to reach individualized goals.
Prior to all initial assessments, and again every 30 days, a Health and Wellness Questionnaire must be completed on any CAC enabled computer through the following link: https://awc.army.mil/ . If CAC access is not available, a hard copy document will be provided; please arrive 15 minutes early to complete this paperwork.
Weight Management/Healthy Nutrition:
AFWC offers metabolic testing to assess individual energy expenditure using indirect calorimetry. Using these results, and accounting for physical activity and individual goals, AFWC educators can create an effective and realistic weight management program for clients looking to maintain, gain or lose weight.
AFWC can also provide courses in basic nutrition, ranging from topics such as reading food labels, quick and healthy meals, and grocery shopping tips. Using this knowledge, clients are empowered to make choices that improve health outcomes!
Fitness testing and exercise prescription offered at the AFWC can assess flexibility, muscular strength, cardiorespiratory fitness levels through VO2 testing, and body composition using the BodPod ® or Ultrasound. Clients may also receive a comprehensive report on current fitness levels in addition to education and individualized exercise counseling to meet specific fitness goals.
AFWC features a program where health educators introduce strategies, resources, and techniques for effective stress management using biofeedback and education.
Unit-level Health Briefings:
All Fort Bliss AFWC staff can provide unit level briefings on a variety of health and wellness topics including nutrition, fitness, body composition, stress management/biofeedback and more!
Unit level assessments provide group services on the body composition and weight management using metabolic assessments and nutritional education.
Who can use the Armed Forces Wellness Center?
All active duty and adult family members, retirees, and DOD civilians.
(Children under the age of 17 will require a medical referral.)
AFWC is an appointment-based center and will make every effort to see clients in a timely manner. It is strongly encouraged clients arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment to allow for completion of paperwork. clients who arrive late may be asked to reschedule. If scheduled appointment cannot be made, please call ahead to reschedule.
In order to provide the highest accessibility to our clients, please call to cancel appointments. Units may be notified of beneficiaries who demonstrate a pattern of failing to cancel appointments in a timely manner.
