Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program Recruitment
There are several advantages to choosing the WBAMC -Texas Tech orthopedic surgery service for either your residency or medical student rotation.
We have no fellowships or competing residency programs. Our combined program provides a surgical experience unmatched in surgical volume and breadth.
Combined University Residency
We are the only residency in the Department of Defense that is formally combined with a university in which all of the advantages of being a civilian university-trained resident are afforded you.
Fantastic teaching staff
Our dedicated, enthusiastic teaching staff, are our program’s greatest strength. Our program ‘personality’ is collegial and supportive. We all firmly believe that education is much more productive through positive reinforcement and respectable mentorship. We are all fellowship-trained and experienced and comfortable with allowing residents autonomy as they mature.
Our program gives you the tools to excel in clinical, operational or academic medicine or pursue a fellowship. We encourage our residents to be professionally active. 100% of our interns and residents are published by the time they graduate.
Our combined program has ample resources through WBAMC and Texas Tech to provide opportunities to participate and attend a wide range of professional endeavors and meetings outside the formal curriculum.

El Paso is a marvelous place to work, play, and raise a family. Despite being the 27th largest city in the US, El Paso is the 3rd safest city with a population > 500,000. There are a number of Blue Ribbon Schools and magnet high schools. Great weather translates into great outdoor opportunities – year round golfing, biking, and some of the best rock climbing in the world. If snow is what you miss – the ski slopes in New Mexico are less 2 hours away. El Paso boasts professional baseball (AAA Chihuahuas), hockey, soccer, rugby and NCAA Division 1 sports (University of Texas-El Paso). Living right on the border of Mexico offers great cultural experiences and “authentic” Mexican food.
Our institution has TDY funding available if you are interested in experiencing our program in person. Please contact Ms Fry or Ms. Leonard below for further details.
